Presentation Boarding School Thurles

Residential and Day Boarding

A fantastic boarding opportunity in a school renowned for its outstanding academic, musical, and sporting record.

An Ethos of Welcome and Care

Do you want your daughter to enjoy the best possible environment for her secondary education?

Presentation Boarding School, Thurles offers her a fantastic opportunity in a school which has an outstanding academic, musical and sporting record.

The ethos of Presentation Boarding School has always been one of welcome and care for each individual boarder entrusted to its care, catering for each students individual gifts, talents and needs. Each boarder is helped to achieve her full potential in a warm, friendly environment, where she feels secure and happy and enjoys a real sense of belonging.

Presentation Secondary School Thurles has an exceptionally high academic record;

- Top School in Tipperary (League Tables 2021 and 2022)

- 10 University Scholarship Awards based on 2021 Leaving Cert results.

An array of extra-curricular activities to suit everyone’s interests and talents is available. Boarders are encouraged and supported to avail of all of these opportunities

Sleeping Areas

Study Facilities

Sleeping areas for the boarders are designed for calmness, good order and comfort.

Every dormitory contains a number of rooms with 2 beds in each room, while Leaving Cert girls love their single rooms. Each room is bright, comfortable and airy with its own washing facilities and with a shower area attached to each dorm.

Two female supervisors are on duty throughout the night to care for the girls, while security patrols the grounds outside the Boarding School at night. Since a good night’s sleep is essential for the health and wellbeing of the boarders, lights are out for Juniors at 10pm and for Seniors at 11pm. Mobile phones are not allowed in the dorm.

Student Life

Facilities for

Boarders

As well as good study opportunities, boarders are also encouraged to develop important life skills, such as the ability to live together in harmony, to be accepting and caring for one another, to practise the Gospel values of kindness, forgiveness and generosity.

Like a plant, each boarder is nurtured and encouraged to blossom to her full potential and to become a mature, confident, respectful young woman building life-long friendships along the way.

The Challenge & Goal

The Solution

MSD pride themselves on creating an inclusive, collaborative and challenging employee experience, founded on trust and mutual respect. As part of this we were asked to produce a rapid build modular solution for their staff gym and leisure areas.

We built one of the largest modular buildings in Ireland on site for MSD as temporary offices. Alongside this we designed a separate large unit to house their leisure facilities.

This separate 4,850m 2 storey building with 140 modules, canteen for 1,000 people, 350 workstations, meeting and break out rooms, shower and comms rooms.

A new facility in Dunboyne.

The Boarding School has three study halls. Each student has her own private study area in these study halls. Four hours of supervised study are scheduled each day. Time is allocated to facilitate extra curricular activities.

Management and Personnel

Health and Wellbeing

A Sick Bay is available if a boarder feels unwell during the day.  A qualified nurse looks after her and administers medication with the permission of her parent. If necessary and if the parent wishes, the sick child is taken to the local doctor.

In general, boarders are encouraged to lead a healthy lifestyle, to avail of the school’s outstanding sport facilities after school and to take plenty of fresh air and exercise.

Our state of the art sporting facilities are second to none, supporting the students’ physical and mental health..

The Presentation Sisters are the Trustees of the Boarding School. They work with the Board of Management who is responsible for the overall management of the Boarding School.

The Manager, Aisling Kiely, and the Deputy Manager, Bernie Hughes, run the Boarding School on a day-to-day basis. Other Boarding Personnel include Day and Night Supervisors, Kitchen Manager and staff, Cleaning and Maintenance Staff.

All of these form a dedicated team which ensures the highest standards of care for our boarders.

The dedicated kitchen staff provide a variety of delicious, home-cooked meals for breakfast, dinner and supper each day. Snacks are provided after school and after study.

Boarders are encouraged to take fruit to school for the morning break. All nutritional needs are provided for e.g. vegetarian, gluten free and other dietary needs. Mobile phones are not permitted at meal times to encourage conversation and social interaction.

Here is what our past pupils and parents had to say about our school and their experience
